LOS FELIZ CIVIC CENTER

The design for the Los Feliz Civic Center places it at a crucial intersection of the city, where Sunset Boulevard cuts diagonally through the street grid. It is a memorable moment in the driver’s and pedestrian’s path. A new council chambers acts as an anchor to the community and to the site’s unique shape, yet its mass floats above the surrounding area. Ground level shops wrap around the facade and lead to the courtyard and grand lobby, which face a more quiet street.

The design process focused on developing a particular part of the project – in this case the milling space. Expression of structure, enclosure, threshold, and materials were explored and enriched.
